Valentine’s Day has become one of the biggest retail events of the year with a staggering $13billion spent on the occasion around the world every year! That’s both good and bad news for florists. On the one hand consumers are prepared to spend big – around $130 per person is the average spend – while on the flip side competition for sales is fierce.
One way to stand out from the crowd in the hotly-contested race for Valentine’s Day sales is to do something different and tie-up with other local businesses to offer some stand-out gifts – just as Nicola at Covent Garden Flowers in Cardiff has done.
A new member of Direct2florist, Nicola has done a deal with her local cinema to offer tickets to the steamy 50 Shades of Grey movie, which is released on Valentine’s weekend, along with some seriously sexy flowers. Nicola has also done a deal with her local Ann Summers shop and together the retailers will be offering the "Sexy Basque Bouquet".
We reckon this is brilliant marketing and we wish her every success with the partnerships – thank you to Nicola for sharing her ideas with D2F.
Maybe it would be a good idea for you to take advantage of the Valentine’s weekend timing of 50 Shades? Maybe you should be adding on some fluffy handcuffs along with your flowers, champagne and chocolate? Maybe you should be talking to local hotels about providing flowers in rooms or on restaurant tables? Whatever you do, we love the idea of doing something to stand out from the crowd.
Do you have any Valentine’s Day marketing ideas that you would like to share with your fellow members? We would love to hear them….
